Rowan Class 2018-19

Rowan class are becoming Master Builders!

Generic Teacher (Teacher blog) on: Rowan Class 2018-19

As part of our Science topic this half term we are learning about what we need to know to be able to be Master Builders. Today we focused on two keys words: waterproof and absorbent. We built walls from Lego and tested different materials to see if they would be suitable materials to make a roof from. We discussed our findings and made notes in our Science journal.

Plastic was waterproof! We could move the water on the plastic sheet and it didn't soak through!

Fabric was absorbent!

"It is going darker because the water is soaking in." Harry.

We all thought that the paper towel wouldn't be waterproof!

"I dry my hands on paper towels." Poppy A

The wood was interesting. It was absorbent but it took a while to soak through!

"The water stayed for a while." Charlie R

Space Day!

Generic Teacher (Teacher blog) on: Rowan Class 2018-19

We all had a fabulous time when we had a space themed Science Day! We focused on planets and stars and made some beautiful art work and star constellations out of marshmallows and spaghetti! It also tested our problem solving skills as well as the constellations were tricky to put together!

We also ordered the planets in order of size (using a range of objects!) Mercury is the smallest and was a peppercorn and the largest planet is Jupiter - it was a watermelon!

Our Mysterious Box!

Generic Teacher (Teacher blog) on: Rowan Class 2018-19

A box arrived in our classroom and we didn't know who it belonged to! Should we open it? Why? Why not? We decided to open it and were amazed at what we found! A diary belonging to Samuel Pepys! He was alive when there was a huge fire in London in 1666! We needed to find out more! in London in 1666! We needed to find out more!

Our research revealed more information about the Great Fire of London! It started on September 2nd 1666 at the King's bakery in Pudding Lane. The fire raged for 5 days!
